Hate Windows 8? New Windows 7 Computers Are Still Available

By | January 23, 2014

We don’t think Windows 8 is a bad operating system at all. In ways, it’s superior to Windows 7.  But Windows 8 is the ugly duckling — and many people are avoiding getting a new computer because they don’t want to deal with Windows 8 — because of all the negative publicity. TC thinks Windows 8 was a mistake – all Microsoft needed to do was to make Windows 8 user-configurable enough that users could have chosen the traditional desktop or the touch-screen mode.  EB thinks it’s great just the way it is. But one thing we both agree on is that it’s not the dog that users and tech writers have made it out to be.

But PC and laptop sales are the worst in history and PC & laptop makers like HP are trying hard to stimulate sales. HP has found that offering brand new Windows 7 computers is a good way to stimulate sales. But HP is not the only computer manufacturer still offering brand new Windows 7 computers… others like Dell, Lenovo, Acer, and Asus (to name a few) still offer new Windows 7 computers. Tiger Direct has quite a nice selection of new Windows 7 computers.

HP flogs Windows 7 systems because people hate Windows 8 so much

Over the weekend HP’s marketing team unleashed a real humdinger of a campaign. They’re proudly trumpeting the availability of systems running Windows 7 just in case PC buyers can’t stand the thought of Windows 8.

Despite what numerous blogs are reporting, HP is not giving up on Windows 8 and offering fresh Windows 7 configurations for sale. As ZDnet’s Ed Bott notes in a well-researched post, HP has never stopped selling Windows 7 PCs.
What they’re doing is the same thing that made-for-TV marketers do. Up next: announcing that you’ll have to act fast because quantities are limited and that they can’t do this all day.

Major PC OEMs almost never give up on the last-gen Windows OS until they absolutely have to. Machines aimed specifically at consumers may become hard to find, but business configs are generally available for a long time after the new OS launches. Just take a quick look at any online retailer’s website. TigerDirect still has dozens of Windows 7 Home and Pro systems for sale. Some are made by HP, but there are also models from ASUS, iBUYPOWER, Lenovo, and Acer…

The system may be superior but I, for one, HATE the idea of “slapping” a screen. My Kindle requires “slapping” and as much as I love the idea of an e-reader half of the time the pages do not move the way I want them to move. Plus, the screen is soon filled with dirty fingerprints. I started using a stylus and that helps a bit but it is still awkward and very inaccurate. Give me a mouse!!!!!. Long live my Windows 7 and its MOUSE!

I would really love to b*tchslap the idiot who invented screen slapping.

I have windows 8 and a mouse. I listen to people saying they hate 8 and I really don’t understand why. My laptop is 7. Why is it better? Windows 8 and a right click down in the lower left corner get me around just fine.

I guess everyone has their own opinion and that’s good. My favorite o f them all was XP and wish they would have upgraded that. I know that their are a lot of people who love 7, 8 and more but I have 7 on my main pc but EX on an older one which I would replace in a heartbeat if I could get XP. I’m 86 yrs young and do all my bill paying and so forth on PC no paper mail in mail box. Can’t you give us a choice or would that cost way to much? I don’t live on my cell as so many do and they can’t live without it. So be it.

    Sincerely Joan

I have Win 7 laptop and 8.1 desktop. I like both. Win 8 just looks intimidating. It is not difficult. I bought 8.1 to use with a mouse because the touch screen is not ergonomically convenient for me. There is a start button on 8.1. Rt click on it and you get all sorts of goodies to help you navigate. You can also download classic shell’s start button. It’s more like win 7. Try Win 8. You’ll love it.
