Microsoft Giveth Back and More About Windows 10

Microsoft resurrects the real Windows Media Player

Microsoft has walked back it’s planned decapitation of Windows Media Player, and by golly, now you’ll be able to play video, music, and DVDs just like you’ve been doing all along. This the second time Microsoft has changed its mind about Windows Media Player – but you know what? Don’t bet any money on anything Windows 10 – because no one knows what what the version of Windows 10 that will be released on July 29 will or won’t have.

It seems to us that Microsoft is listening more closely to its customers this time around; maybe they don’t want another publicly humiliating debacle like Windows 8. We shall see.

Our bet is that you’ll be playing your music, video files and DVDs just like you’ve been doing. But you know we have not seen the final version of Windows 10 – we don’t think anyone has.

skyisfalling1Don’t believe everything you read and hear about Windows 10

Every time Microsoft gets ready to release a new version of Windows, the Henny Pennys of the world come crawling out of their shelters and begin crying, “The sky is falling”. (That’s who said “The sky is falling, isn’t it, EB?)

It’s not falling. Really!

We’ve been receiving a lot of emails from people concerned that this driver or that driver won’t work with Windows 10. Let us assuage your fears by giving you the facts:

No one has yet tested final version of Windows 10  – the one that’s going to be released to the public on July 29, 2015. So no one knows, for sure, what drivers or hardware will or won’t work. Just because something might now work right in the preview release sure doesn’t mean it won’t work in the final released version, Microsoft makes this very clear and even warns users of the preview edition that some things might not work correctly, other things may be missing and other features might not be fully finished. So don’t believe anything you read about some drivers or hardware not working with Windows 10.  No one has tested the final version of Windows 10 – so no one knows.

Windows 10 is Windows 8 with a prettier face and a more “Windows-like” look and feel. It is not some brand new incarnation of Windows built from scratch. It’s built on Windows 8 and Windows 7. So, that’s why your Windows 7 and Windows 8 software will work on Windows 10 and why you can count on that fact that all that stuff you’re reading  about some hardware and drivers not working on Windows 10 is mostly hot air.

We will all know a whole lot more about the final version of Windows 10 when Microsoft releases Windows 10 to manufacturing. The date for Windows 10 RTM has not been announced but the best guess is it will be released in early to mid July, just prior to the release of Windows 10 to the public.

Don’t you worry your pretty little head – the sky isn’t falling, honest!

Here we go again . This boarders on insanity . How many times can micro-soft change it’s mind and expect people to be jazzed over their product ? I am still trying to get over the loss of XP .
I have win/7 home premium 2nd generation and in less than 2 years I have had 2 of them . The 1st one was only 1 month old when the cd player went out . On the Dell I have if the player goes out you loose your computer . Then after 3 months I got a download that wiped out my computer and once again Dell come to do the repairs . Replaced motherboard , hard drive , power cable & box , 8 gigs of ram , fans . In other words rebuilt the computer in my living room . Once repairs were made still wouldn’t work so Dell replaced it with the 3rd generation . In less than a year I have had a yet another motherboard installed , power box , and power cable and Dell says it’s micro-soft’s software that is causing the problem so excuse me if I am not jazzed about this new computer coming out .
We all know what Vista turned out to be and 8 and 8.1 and yes some win/7’s like mine .
Here we are just about 6 weeks from realease date and we are still playing games with what is going to work and what isn’t . Tells me micro-soft needs to get their heads out of the clouds or change the brand of what they smoke if they are wanting people to believe in there products again .
Like I wrote last night I for 1 don’t want win/10 and when this computer dies there won’t be any more computers in my house . I am done with micro-soft .
And for the one that replied to my comment last night it was Bill Gates that gave us XP not microsoft .

I agree with you Charlene. I am sick to death of all of it. I have an old e-machine that is a piece of s–t but it was for my husband who was passing on and just needed to have a pc to play a game on. I love it because it has XP the nicest program I ever had and it takes a program that my 7 and 8 pc can’t play but one of the best Create a card 3 plus (not made any more) I use it for everything . I just bought a new I pad and love it so I agree, No more PCs for me. The CEO s have made enough.

Joan I am sooo sorry to hear about your husband passing .
I don’t want any I pads either . Look at how many they have been coming out with and the cost is outrages . One guy had one set his pants on fire when he put his phone in his pocket and I don’t think I need that kind of stuff around . I am 66 years old and getting to old to keep replacing computers just to make someone richer .
Like I said I would like to know what micro-soft is smoking . Look how many names they have given IE and now all the hipe over media player and media center and what is going to work and what isn’t . That should have already been figured out before they realise to the public .

I miss Win XP so bad I just bought an older Dell with a clean install of Win XP. I too, loved Create-A-Card Deluxe 3; best card program out there. I had lots of other great software that won’t run on Windows 7. I really miss Outlook Express and feel outraged that I had to use Microsoft Office 2003 in order to have MS Outlook to use for my mail program. After reading another article that claimed that Windows Media Player was going away, I never intended to upgrade (downgrade) to Windows 10. Windows XP was by far the best OS they’ve ever had

It is a moot point anyway, Ginger. You cannot upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 10 anyway – unless you want to pay $120. The upgrade is not free for Vista or XP users. As time goes by Windows XP will become more and more vulnerable. Even Google won’t be updated for XP after this year. While taking chances might not bother you, your computer could easily be turned into a zombie and could be used to spread Trojans or spam without you knowledge. It happened with those who insisted on using Windows 98 SE because it was superior to Windows XP. A few years after XP was released, many of those who refused to change ended up having their computer turned into a zombie and being used to propagate malware and spam. Darcy and I have seen it happen. Many, many people refused to upgrade to Windows XP from Windows 98, claiming Windows 98 was superior. Not many people like chance. It’s human nature.

At the time Bil Gates was in charge of Microsoft and his team then developed XP, which was indeed a popular operating system. However, Windows 10 as per preview which I downloaded a while Is far more superior than previous operating systems as I have proved to my own satisfaction.

Well at least Bill Gates didn’t have his head up his a** or in the clouds and built a system that worked and didn’t change his mind everytime the wind blows like the are doing now . Micro-soft needs to get all their ducks in a row and give the people what they want instead of jerking us around like they are doing now . Bill Gates wasn’t a game player like they are now and when he build XP he built it to work and was user freindly . Maybe he needs to come back so that people have faith again .

When I upgrade to Windows 10 will it automatically save my pictures and documents or do I need to back those up?

Oh My! ALWAYS back up your pics an docs no matter what your plans are. At minimum, partition your hard drive
to keep your pics and docs separated from the OS files. Then, the Win10 upgrade won’t threaten your pics and doc.

As it is an upgrade all documents and pictures will automatically be backed up in your documents and pictures folder as it appears in Windows 10.
I downloaded Windows 10 p(inside preview) several months ago, and I have lost nothing.

Windows Media Player…..WOW! Maybe Microsoft will surprise us with Outlook Express and if they do my faith in technology and bigwigs will be reaffirmed. It doesn’t hurt to listen to the consumer….they’re the ones who cushion the pockets of Microsoft and their ilk.

For those who enjoy Outlook Express: (Hope this bit of information helps some!)
When you purchased Microsoft Office Home & Student 2013 Electronic Software Download (PC Software)
Outlook Express its in it, plus Excel, MS Word, Power Point, etc… . The Software was on sale when we bought it, though.
Their regular price $149.00 dollars. Bought it at Target Store.
You can get purchase the License by download and it might be cheaper. Google it and can probably find it cheaper.

Microsoft Office does not contain Outlook Express – it has Outlook. Outlook and Outlook Express are not the same by a long shot.

Whenmy old XP computer died 2 years ago, I got a new one with W8 already installed. I’ve never had W7 or Vista, so any reference to those is lost on me. I’ve been using Winamp as my mp3 player for over 10 years, but The XP WMP11 – I enjoyed that SO much! It was watching the different visualizations that captivated me, so much so that I did an extensive search and collected all I could find, a total of 17, with only a few made my Microsoft. It’s against the odds, but I hope the new WMP will support those, or that we’ll be able to go back to the older ver. 11. Because there’s nothing funnier than watching “Solamente Una Vez,” sung by Andrea Bocelli, visualized as the happy dancing snowman. Yes, I am easily entertained.

Reading the comments above makes me wish I lived next door to some of you so I could sit down with you at your computers and show you what you are missing by not moving with the times. I am 72 and have help many “oldies” here in NZ to improve their skills and knowledge and enjoy their computers. Sure the horse and cart may have been more reliable but I think most once they have learnt how to drive would rather have a car. As an aside there is no way that an OS such as windows would cause a computer crash as described that is just Dell trying to shift the blame.

Well if Dell was trying to shift the blame then why would they notify micro-soft it was their software that was causing the problem . I have lived this nightmare for almost 2 years so I know since the call was made from my apt from Dell to Micro-soft .

Not sure what their beef with Microsoft would have been. I can only speak from my experience. I have had 3 different Dell computers over a 15 year period running vista win 7 and win 8 with absolutely no problems. I would still say the fault is with the hardware.

I was one that got some of micro-softs bad downloads and when Dell ran the dignostics is where they were able to pin point the problem . All the computers that I have ever owned are Dell computers since they build them to last . Corrupt downloads will do it everytime .

When Bell Gates was running micro-soft never had to worry about the downloads but since he has been gone there have been quite a few and from where I sit there are going to be more .

Ah I see. Its the updates that are the problem rather than the OS as a whole. I agree there have been some updates that have upset things to put it mildly. Because of this I have set my updates to ask me before they download. When one appears I usually wait up to a week before I even consider downloading it. I then do a bit of googling to see if there have been any problems with the latest updates. Of course you shouldn’t have to do this but it seems to be a fact of life. So you are right to be annoyed.
