Microsoft to Sweeten Office 365 Deals

We have been using Microsoft Office 365 Personal Edition for several years now. We pay $69.99 a year for a continuously updated MS Office Suite which included Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, OneNote, Publisher (PC only) and Access (PC only). We like it because it’s fairly inexpensive – especially at $6.99 / month – and we never have to worry about our MS Office programs being out of date — plus we can reinstall MS Office it any time we need to reinstall it without any problems.

Both of us have Office 365 Personal Edition ($69.99 /year or $6.99 /month) which has been limited to one user/one device. But beginning October 2, 2018, Microsoft is is sweetening the deal for both Office 365 Home Edition ($99.99 / year or $9.99 /month) and Office Personal Edition users.

Here’s the scoop from Microsoft about the new deals for MS Office 365 Home & Personal Users

Office on all your devices

The Office 365 Home and Office 365 Personal subscriptions currently include device install limits. Home limits subscribers to 10 devices in total (across five users) and Personal limits subscribers to one PC or Mac and one tablet. Starting October 2, subscribers can install Office on an unlimited number of devices—and be signed into their accounts on up to five of those devices at the same time.

And the scoop for MS Office 365 Home Users

Six licenses rather than five

The Office 365 Home subscription is already an incredible deal. For just $99.99 a year, five people can get their own licenses to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote—plus 1 TB of OneDrive cloud storage and other valuable apps and services. Starting October 2, we’re increasing the number of licenses in a Home subscription from 5 to 6. That’s right: we’re adding an additional person to the subscription with no change in price. To be clear, that’s 6 people with their own license and 1 TB of OneDrive cloud storage each—for a total of 6 TB. We’re also integrating the Home subscription more deeply into the Microsoft family service, so your subscription will automatically be shared with the people you’ve set up as members of your family.

You can read the entire announcement here. You can read the FAQ here. Or, if you like, you can get more information and/or buy MS Office 365 Home for $99.99 /year or $9.99 /month) or MS Office 365 Personal for $69.99 /year or $6.99 /month from this page.

This article is for informational purposes only. We don’t sell or make a commission from sales of MS Office 365 – we just use it and we do think it’s a pretty good deal. There are a lot of great free office programs out there and we’ve covered many of them in the past, but none of them are MS Office.

Not much of a sweetener guys – how many families have six users, price drop would have been much sweeter..

I only use the MS Office, I know all the other stuff comes with that package but I don’t need all that other stuff, but it is worth the $69.99 a year to me. I love it. I won’t get it for my other computer. One is enough. I’m glad they offered this over 2 years ago when I first bought my computer.

It still saves roughly $40 yrly with just 2 users, which happens to be what I have now with my me and my wife. I do have a question, perhaps someone can answer.

With the above in mind, here’s the situation that brought me there.

I bought a new laptop a few months ago and subscribed/upgraded to the Home version for $99.99 while my wife’s computer had a still active version of the personal version. Hers expired yesterday. So I did the Share Office invite (after uninstalling her Personal version). Install worked fine, but, when running any of the Office modules (Word, Excel, etc), it shows (Unlicensed version) at top of window. It seems to run, but I’m concerned there may be a grace period and this msg is from the old license.

Her MS account shows the Home version being shared too.

Anyone encounter this? Do i have cause for concern?

You will have to ask Microsoft, I have no idea why it says Unregistered at the top. If it were me and I was paying for shared access, I wouldn’t worry about it, I’d keep using it. I have Windows 10 on one computer and it’s a Windows Insider version (test version) and it always says “Evaluation copy” even though I have a Windows 10 license
