The Case of the Missing Taskbar Icons
There is a glitch in Windows 10 – not everyone will experience it – but if you do it can be quite annoying and there doesn’t seem to be any solution except to restart Windows. But there’s a quicker, easier way, I tells ya!
If you’re one of those who experiences the phenomena I call The Case of the Missing Taskbar icons, here’s a quick and easy fix:
- Press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC to open task manager
- Find Windows Explorer (located in Processes)
- Right-click and choose “Restart”
Your icons will magically re-appear. This works every time – unless you have a more serious problem.
I have Windows 10 on my laptop and shut the lid at night. When I open it up in the morning to turn it back on sometimes the taskbar just disappears. I do CTRL+ALT+DEL to get task manager up and then I do a log out and when I log back in the taskbar shows up. Very annoying and I wish there was some kind of fix for it.
Hi Stephen,
Restarting Windows Explorer would work for you too; it’s a lot faster than restarting your computer.
Thanks,
TC
I had this happen and then it seemed to fix itself.. Now I have the problem that after my PC boots up and loads all the programs, icons etc, it opens the system 32 library page… how do I get that to stop????
Without looking at your computer – we can’t tell you. You can try going to task manager and clicking the start up tab and disabling as many startups as you can.
