One thing you get when you have to work we EB every day is – other than crazy – astonished. She’s always humming haunting tunes and when I ask her (nicely) what the heck she’s humming, her standard answer is “I don’t know”. She hums all these haunting melodies – all songs without names and it leaves me frustrated and hungry. What’s a guy to do? What is the name of that song. She does this on purpose. She is trying to drive me insane and have me shipped off to Cartutla for mental rehabilitation and indoctrination. She’s plotting against me and driving me insane with that eerie humming.

Ha! I’m the king of search and little will she know (until she reads this) that I foiled her pernicious plot to ply me from my perch at Cloudeight and so she can grab the reins of our massive (ha! ha!) empire with her wrinkled-up, old,  duplicitous hands. My search savvy has turned up a gold mine for those who hear the haunting hums of EB and can’t, for the life of them, figure out what the name of the song is.

Yesterday, while she was practicing her evil trade, humming her haunting tunes, I fired up my browser and headed to midomi.com where upon I hummed her haunting little ditty into my microphone and midomi instantly displayed the name of the tune. It was “I’m Gonna Make You Eat Bread Until Your Belly Explodes” by The Alka Seltzer Five. I knew I recognized it – my aunt used to hum it to me when she was trying to lull me to sleep in her swimming pool. As you can see, my aunt was not successful and neither was EB. I’ve escaped many harrowing experiences in my lengthy time on Earth.

What’s that? Oh, yes, I hear ya! I’m prattling on again. Thanks for reminding me.

Here’s how midomi’s developers describe this rather amazing site and contribution to those of us who need to know the name of a song when someone tries to drive you nuts by humming it all day long:

“midomi is the ultimate music search tool because it is powered by your voice. Sing, hum, or whistle to instantly find your favorite music and connect with a community that shares your musical interests. Give it a try. It’s truly amazing!”

So, putting prattle aside and putting the kibosh on EB, by the power vested in me by Cloudie The Great, I hereby declare my freedom from EB’s incessant humming and that midomi.com is today’s Website pick.

I prattle no more.

“It seems to me I’ve heard that song before,
It’s from an old familiar score,
I know it well, that melody…”
    (They dont know that one.)

Neither do I. So you’ve stumped us all. Are you sure you’re humming in tune?

I hummed it, I sang it, then I outright played it by Frank Sinatra, and they still don’t know it. But that’s OK, I do. I wish “Name That Tune” was still on, I could SO win!

Love the idea of being able to identify a hummed tune, but what if you happen to have extracted music from videos or other sources you’ve downloaded, midomi.com just don’t cut it.

I have been using “Tunatic”, so far it done a decent job, the only drawback is that it will not work with classical music and can only identify audio that’s in their database.
It has quite an extensive database, but you can take part in updating the database by downloading and installing “Tunalyzer”.
Here is how it works according to their wesite, (The Tunatic database is maintained by the Tunatic community itself through a program called Tunalyzer. Tunalyzer (when installed and enabled) scans your computer for music. When it finds a song that is not in Tunatic’s database yet, it analyzes it and sends its audio fingerprint and metadata (title, artist, etc.) to the Tunatic server. Thus, that song can later be identified by other Tunatic users.
The more users install and enable Tunalyzer, the more songs can be identified through Tunatic. You have the power to make Tunatic better!)

If anyone is interested, here is where you get your FREE copy of “Tunatic” http://www.wildbits.com/tunatic/

Go here for “Tunalyzer” and additional information, http://www.wildbits.com/tunatic/tunalyzer.html

Oh, did I mention it’s FREE?
