Windows 8: Three ways to recover from pending disaster

By | June 25, 2013

Windows 8, (TC says), is Windows 7 without a start button, and big ol’ tiles on what’s called “the start screen”. But most people using a mouse and keyboard would prefer to start Windows with the desktop. And Windows 8.1 will fix that mess, in the meantime you can use something like Classic Shell to restore the start button and avoid the start screen with all its primary colors altogether.

But under the hood, Windows 8, brings new features that all Windows 8 users should familiarize themselves with, BEFORE something bad happens. So now without further bashing of primary colors we present: Windows 8’s Three Ways to Bring Windows Back From The Dead.

The new Recovery option in the Control Panel gives you three different options for restoring your system.

1. System Restore – This is the same system restore that you’ve forgotten about for years, but which really can help return your computer to happier days.

2. Refresh Your PC – This option allows you to completely re-install Windows, while keeping all your personal files and Windows 8 apps intact. It does not keep your installed programs intact — you will need to re-install them.

3. Reset Your PC – This option completely wipes your files before reinstalling Windows. If you confuse #2 with #3, you’ll be sorry. So please note the difference.

I never had Win 7; had Vista. But Windows 8 is NOT like anything I’ve had since I started with Win 95!!

It is not like the many kinds of Windows I have used!!
