Add DuckDuckGo Search to your favorite browser

We’ve touted DuckDuckGo before. It’s the private search engine that keeps your searches private and respects your privacy rights.

With computers taking over almost everything in our lives, we can all be tracked, collated, assessed, reviewed, and used by advertisers and others to whom information equals money. So it only makes sense to do as much as you can to ensure that at least the things you search for aren’t being tallied, reviewed, and used somehow. It’s not that it’s so dangerous, it’s just that it’s being done.

Our privacy everywhere is being jeopardized by the very things we write about all the time: Computers. Computers, like almost every other tool, can be used for good or ill.

If you want to keep your searches more private, you can add DuckDuckGo to your browser’s list of search engines, and even make it your default search engine. Their results seem to be as good as Google’s or Bing’s, but DuckDuckGo does not track you.

How do you add DuckDuckGo to your browser? It’s as easy as this:

Go to http://duckduckgo.com/about.html and scroll down until you see the link that says “Add to your browser”. DuckDuckGo can be added to Firefox, Internet Explorer and Google Chrome. You can easily make it your default once you’ve added it to your browser.

So if you’re tried of being a pawn in someone’s quest to make you an asset instead of treating you like a person with rights, add DuckDuckGo to your browser and you might breathe a little bit easier.

    Hi,
I added DuckDuckGo when you first mentioned it a while back and I can’t get over how fast it is. I’m very impressed with it and suggest people dowload it. If you don’t like it, you can always get rid of it but I’m betting people will be impressed with it.

I think I will give it a try, as well. I added it to my existing Chrome. I agree, we are tracked too much these days.
    Thank you for the suggestion!

McAfee SiteAdvisor apparently does not work in the DuckDuckGo search engine.

McAfee doesn’t like a lot of things — we haven’t recommended McAfee anything for a long time. For two weeks one time, McAfee said we were a bad site. They don’t get much better than DuckDuckGo.

If DDG is a better browser….why add it to any other? You would answer…it’s not. And that it’s a search engine. Guess what…to 99% of users that is the same damn thing.
So make it work like one. Allow me to add favorites.
    Simple.

Can someone just send a link so I can “add to favorites” or “add to bookmark”?

Clearly I’m not 100% computer literate- so you have to make it easy. Thank you.

All major browsers have options to change the default search engines.

I have no idea what you mean. I don’t know what Catalina is and Safari is a browser for Apple OS/iOS. If you can clarify I’ll help you but I don’t use Safari and have no idea what Catalina is other than and island.

DuckDuckGo is not a browser -it’s a search engine.

I like to use DDG as my search engine. But i like to bookmark pages…. like I do when using Safari. Can I bookmark pages in DDG?

Duck Duck Go is a search engine -not a browser. You set bookmarks and favorites in your browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera, Safari, etc.). You don’t set bookmarks in search engines.
