BleachBit: A Unique System Cleaner

Once in a while, we find a freeware program that seems to be a re-hash of other applications, but on closer look isn’t. BleachBit is one of these kinds of applications.

On the surface, it may seem to be just another system clean-up tool (yawn!) of which there are dozens of free ones to choose from. But when we looked closer, we found it to be the most powerful, most comprehensive free clean-up tool we’ve ever used. And because it can be so powerful – it can cause problems for some users — especially those who are inclined to not heed warnings or read program documentation.

But we’ve decided to recommend it to you because it cleans areas of your computer that most others don’t touch,  BleachBit is a powerful system clean-up tool, and when it is used with care, it can clean up files like Adobe Reader’s cache. temporary files, system files, files created by popular browsers such as Chrome, Opera, Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc., and much more. Plus its file shredder can make you private files impossible to recover.

It goes places other cleaners don’t — and that’s why we are featuring it. Here’s a simple description from the developer:

“When your computer is getting full, BleachBit quickly frees disk space. When your information is only your business, BleachBit guards your privacy. With BleachBit you can free cache, delete cookies, clear Internet history, shred temporary files, delete logs, and discard junk you didn’t know was there. Designed for Linux and Windows systems, it wipes clean thousands of applications including Firefox, Adobe Flash, Google Chrome, Opera, and more. Beyond simply deleting files, BleachBit includes advanced features such as shredding files to prevent recovery, wiping free disk space to hide traces of files deleted by other applications, and vacuuming Firefox to make it faster. Better than free, BleachBit is open source…

BleachBit has many useful features designed to help you easily clean your computer to free space and maintain privacy.

How does this work with amazon.ca or does it not? I hope it does because I would love to help you in any way possible but amazon.com sends stuff from the US, not Canada.

BleachBit has nothing to do with Amazon. We put our Amazon at the end of the article to remind people of our Amazon affilation.

I have two questions re: this page but unrelated to each other.

    1. How does BleachBit compare with Registry Organizer or is this an apples/oranges comparison?

    2. I would love to help you on Amazon but does your link work with amazon.ca which I use. For me to use amazon.com would end up costing more because of over-the-border and exchange.

Reg Organizer is not free and it’s not an extensive system cleaner. Reg Organizer has a lot of great tools and features where BeachBit does not. Reg Organizer can clean junk files, but it is not an extensive deep system cleaner like BeachBit. Reg Organizer has dozens of great features and removes temporary and junk files and is not free. BleachBit is a free, deep system cleaner and that’s all it does.

Our Amazon link works for everyone in the USA, Canada, and Australia. UK is coming soon. See this article.

      Thanks!

BleachBit can not beat Privazer, tried and tested many times, neither can CCleaner (annoying if not Pro) the same with Malwarebytes, who took over Adaware (pay for Pro)
I have used Privazer since the programme was available and not one failure since 2012, no takeover either.
Free always, a small donation in appreciation helps the service continue.

We’ve used Privizer many times it’s for advanced users. If someone is not careful and uses its advanced features without understanding the consequences it can cause major problems. So, unless and until Privizer makes a “Safe mode” or makes it clear the damage that can result from some of its advanced features, then we won’t recommend it.

CCleaner was not taken over by Malwarebytes, it was bought by Avast/AVG who use it as a way to draw people into using AVG/Avast. We never recommended CCleaner for the same reason we don’t recommend Privizer — the opportunity to cause damage exists. With CCleaner, it was its registry cleaning feature. And now that it is owned by Avast/AVG it’s even worse.
