How to Fix the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update Double Sign-in Bug
We have had several people report to us that ever since they updated to Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (version 1709) that they have to type in their password or PIN twice before they can use their computers. This appears to be a minor bug in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update that we call the Double Sign-in Bug.
We have had several readers report that the following fixes (usually #1) worked for them. So if you’re having the double sign-in problem, try the solutions below. We suggest you don’t skip #1. It’s the easiest and the least time consuming – and it usually works.
#1 The easiest fix
a. Open Settings ( Windows Key + i )
b. In Settings click on Accounts then click on Sign-in options on the left.
c. In Sign-in options, under “Privacy” turn the switch next to “Use my sign-in info to automatically finish setting up my device after an update or restart.” to OFF. See the screenshot below:
Restart your PC and then try signing in. If you only have to sign in once, you’re all set. If not, try the next fix.
#2: The more complicated fix
a. Create a restore point before attempting this fix. You can create a restore point by typing “Create a Restore Point” (no quotes) in the taskbar search (Cortana). Press Enter or click it when on “Create a Restore Point” when it appears at the top of the search results. When the System Properties dialog appears, click the button labeled “Create”.
b. Open an administrator command prompt. In the taskbar search (Cortana) type “CMD” (no quotes). When Command Prompt appears at the top of the search results, right-click on it and choose “Run as administrator”.
c. At the prompt copy & paste the following command :
d. Restart your PC and verify that the problem is fixed.

Can I assume MS (The Creator) has repaired this simple bug in their product on future downloads to those of us who haven’t jumped out of the frying pan yet?

It’s really not a substantive issue. It’s a minor flaw, more annoying than anything. As far as we know MS has not fixed it; as far as we know Microsoft has not acknowledged it. But tens of thousands of users have had the double sign-in problem. It’s never safe to assume anything with Microsoft. This minor bug shouldn’t stop you from upgrading to version 1709.
Even though the Double Sign-in was only a very minor inconvenience, thanks to you guys the fix was very simple. Thank you very much.
