I’ve been using Windows 10 for several months now and every time that an update is ran I have to do a restore because I loose about 20 of the 40 programs that I have on my computer. I wish that I had stayed with Windows 8.1.

Never heard of that happening. What programs are you losing?

I have been using Windows 10 since it was available for update last year. I like it very much and have no trouble with it. If there was a choice of any of the windows, I would choose 10 over all the others.
Of course I have read and used (played with) all your tips and tricks and found them a great help in learning how to use 10. Thank you for those. I think if everyone did the same they would find out just how good it is.

I had windows 10 and went back to windows 7 just to much stuff on 10
and did not work every time it had updates and a lot of computer slow downs
and just hard trying to find everything I have on 7. Windows 7 is much easier
to navigate. I will never go to windows 10, just to complicated.

I’ve been using Win7 Home edition for several years (still prefer XP and miss it).
I’ll probably continue with Win 7 until I have to buy a new computer because I
will want Win10 Pro and can’t upgrade free to that version. Plus, I still can’t
get excited to learn yet another OS version no matter how good people say
it is. XP from the several prior versions of Windows was a breath of fresh air
plus the best email program in the world which most everybody else used, too.

Love win10 except I lost WM and my techie can’t put it back for me. He use to with win8.1. I don’t want to lose it every time there is an update so I paid for Outlook Express. Other then that all my programs work and have no other problems.

We can install Windows Mail on Windows 10 (64 bit) for you – we have done it for dozens of Windows 10 users. If you’re using 64 bit Windows – see this page

I would love to update but so far nothing, I think everyone I know has been upgraded already. I guess they will get to me sometime.

I’m using Windows 10 and can’t say I’m REALLY happy with it. I don’t have any great desire to revert to Win7 but I’m certainly not using all the “bells and whistles” that are part of Win10.

Hi, I have W10 on all the computers in the house – 5 of them – and all are working well. The only problem I have is that my main computer an Acer Touch screen, updated from W8.1, hasn’t updated to the latest version from the 10240. All my others updated with out any problem but as far as I can see the update did not appear on the Acer. Is there anywhere I can get it from to download. I have tried Microsoft but no luck, unless I am looking in the wrong place. Otherwise I like W10 and the way it integrates with my iPhone and iPad via One Drive, saves a lot of hassle with iCloud. Your informative newsletter has helped show me how to set the computers up with most of the things missing from W7.

I am still with Windows 7 until I find a new inexpensive DELL computer hopefully with Windows 10 already installed. My problem is I cannot transfer my Win. 7 work on a hard drive or USB port. C8 tried but could not help probably because of some problem with my Dell tower. Will bring back my present Dell Vostro tower to see what the problem is. (P.S.) Hope Win. 10 is better than Win. 7 because I still am not at ease with Win. 7 and having to learn a newer version will be somewhat difficult. I’ll probably be like Fay.

I installed Win 10 on my laptop shortly after Microsoft came out with the offer. I still have upgraded my desktop that has Win 7. I love Win 7 a lot, but I thought I’ll learn the new system on my laptop first. I am not really comfortable with 10 yet because I find it difficult to find things, also not really familiar with this Cloud stuff, but I’m trying – my 78 yr old brain wants to know what is all this stuff I’m pushing thru.

Hi Geri, you really don’t have to use the Cloud stuff just because you’re using Windows 10. If you want it to be, Windows 10 can be cloud-integrated. But you can choose not to do that. We offer a Windows 10 customization service, if you’re interested, designed to make your Windows 10 computer work and look more like Windows 7. If you’re interested, you can learn more about that here.

I have upgraded from Windows 7 ultimate to Windows 10 Small Business. I didn’t even try the change over myself having read some of the stories being bandied around, But instead thought it would be prudent to get my IT friend to do the entire work, and it went like clock work and without any hassles or hitches. I found everything in its place no missing or deleted files what so ever. I suppose my experience was made much smoother as I also have a Surface Pro 4 tablet computer with Windows 10 already installed, so, the comparison of Windows 10 to Windows 7 which I had on my PC was very simple, so the decision to upgrade was not a problem. So, my findings are, it is a big improvement on 7, which like all previous Windows, it to, will become obsolete. I think finally Microsoft may be starting to listen to constructive criticism, and are making the changes. I hope so!

I transferred windows 10 from 8.1. I connect get it to load properly because my server was slow, so I took it to staples and the tech did not have any problems. After several weeks the windows menu did not work. Click on the windows switch an nothing happened. Took it back to staples and the tech said that he would to add another account to make it work. He did that and it worked. Several weeks and the same thing happened. Took it to another tech at staples who fixed it and when I hooked the computer up and got power and tried to click on the windows switch and it did not work again. If I knew I was having this much problem, I would have stayed with 7. Microsoft tech’s could not fix this problem. They advised that I would to do clean install of Windows 10 and that erase all my information and some programs. No one seems to know how to fix this problem. If you googled this problem, it give many fixes and a lot of people are having this problem.

This usually happens on Windows 7 because Windows Update is not working or not working correctly. You need to make installation media (DVD or USB) and install the upgrade from the medial If your computer is more than a couple years old we recommend you create a Windows 10 installation DVD and upgrade using that.

      for making a Windows 10 installation/upgrade DVD.

I liked Win 8 but decided to upgrade. (Who can resist a challenge and something for free?) I didn’t like the start button so I use Classic Shell for Windows 10. Set up my start button to look like and act like earlier versions. Got rid of all the charms in both Win 8 and Win 10- useless things. Killed Cortana when it finally arrived in my backwater. So reasonably happy with 10, though I do find the upgrades keep changing my settings. And I do miss XP,

I’ve upgraded 3 computers from Windows 8.1 and am really happy with it. I have a Sony All in one that has Windows 7 Home Premium, but I think I’ll keep that as it is because my printer is mainly on it and I don’t want to have to buy a new printer or take a chance on my network not working. Everything works except Windows Update no longer works. I may see if you guys can fix that for me soon.

    Hello,
I am using win 8.1 and love it. I am a PC tech, so I know about all of them. IMHO, 8.1 is the best. I also have an Acer with win 10 and I hate how slow it is compared to the win 8.1 that was on it. I keep it only because I need something winh win 10 so I can help others. Win 10 is too slow, to intrusive. When the laptop with win 10 is on, my internet crawls to a stop on my other pc with win 8.1. They are not networked or anything, just sharing a router. If I turn off the win 10 pc, the other one runs great on the internet.
I have reverted many people back from win 10 as they are totally not happy with it.
Love 8.1, I am using Classic Shell to look like win 7. I will not upgrade myself.

Something is going on there, John. Being a PC tech you should know that Windows 10 and Windows 8.1 have exactly the same foundation. Darcy and I both use Windows 10 to run our support service and we connect with between 100 and 200 people every month and Windows 10 is as fast or faster than Windows 7 or Windows 8x. The connection speed is not a function of the operating system – it’s a function of your hardware, your service provider, and sometimes the browser (some are faster than others). We just don’t want you misleading people. I have android devices, a Chromebook, a Windows 7 computer, and Windows 10 – there is hardly any difference in the speed of the connection between them.

You have something else going on there, John. Being a computer tech you should be looking beyond Windows 10. Windows 8 wasn’t the worst selling Windows OS since Vista for no reason.

If you like Windows 8.1 better than Windows 10 that’s fine. But when you say Windows 10 is too slow to work on other computers for your tech support, that’s not a problem with Windows 10 – Darcy & I live 200 miles apart and we’re using 2 different brands of computers – but we are both using Windows 10 and do hundreds of support calls a month. No problems for us.

And Windows 10 is built on Windows 8 – with a start menu and some minor changes to System Reset, File Explorer, etc.

I upgraded to Windows 10 last year from Windows 7 and was happy with it except I found I could no longer transfer photos from my digital camera into the Pictures folder or whatever W10 calls it now. After speaking to 2 people at Microsoft Support, the only solution they offered was to buy something else to assist in the process. I’m sorry but it was so many months ago and I don’t remember what it was. In any case, I returned to Windows 7 because I need to continue to be able to upload photos for posting onto CraigsList.

My computer has a card reader (digital camera card) and I don’t have any trouble transferring pictures using he card reader or the cable. Actually Microsoft didn’t change that much from Windows 7 – the folder is still called “Pictures”. So I don’t know if other people are having the same problem, but I don’t and I don’t think Darcy is. This does not sound like a Windows 10 issue to me.

The card reader may have been what was recommended. My Dell computer tower does have one and I’ve been using that all along. I’m wondering if the problem stems from the camera. I will give upgrading to Windows 10 another shot. Thanks.

I am still using Vista. I’m scared to update to Windows 10. I’m a slow learner. I like Vsta but the only trouble is, I can’t update Internet Explorer. I am using Internet Explorer 9. So sad.
