This article, published by ABC news, should be of interest to all Windows 8 users, and to those Windows XP devotees who are holding on to their Windows XP systems until the bitter end (April 2014):

“Since releasing Windows 8, Microsoft has sold over 100 million licenses, however users have said that the software changes were confusing. Recently, analyst firm IDC blamed Windows 8’s “radical changes” and “removal of the familiar Start button” for one of the steepest declines in PC sales in history. Windows Blue, which will be out before the end of the year, plans to address those grievances…”

I bought my laptop when Win7 was new…not because of Win7 but because my old computer showed signs of wanting to “die”. The free-will purchases of Win8 by average consumers is the ONLY TRUE sales record. I’d like to
know how many actually went to a store or online for the purpose of buying Win8 in a box. Hardware manufacturers have no choice but to buy and install “the operating system of the month”. That’s nothing for Microsoft to brag about. How many Win8 boxes did they sell directly to a user who doesn’t need new hardware? Don’t hear much about those sales figures. Personally, I have no need or desire for touchscreen. And especially no need or desire to “learn”, again, another operating system.
I resent being told by Microsoft that I don’t like change.
I just want to learn new things that I CHOOSE, and not learn yet another “new language” unless it involves travelling to another country.

    I agree with Muriel.
So many of us seniors love xp, and really don’t find the need to have anything better.
Why change XP when it was so popular. The old saying applies”If it aint broke, don’t fix it.
Besides 7-8 have not the capicity to do animation unless, cloud 8 fixes it.What happens to all those pople who enjoy making graphics that don’t belong to Cloud 8.
If it wasn’t so good how come it has lasted 12 years
    Just another form of greed

I would like to know if Microsoft do bring in the changes to include the start button will users of the previous version WITHOUT the start button get an upgrade to include the button or will Microsoft make people go out and buy the upgrade? This would be unfair as most people cannot afford to keep buying upgrades.
Therefore Microsoft should do a ‘good faith’ deal and send through a free upgrade to all those without the button.
My new laptop doesn’t have a button with Windows 8 and it is more time consuming trying to use without it.
Microsoft send an email to all users through their Windows email list, with a link to get a free upgrade to contain the button – they sure as hell can afford it.

    Hope you hear this Microsoft

I agree with Muriel. I am so sick of being told what is best for me. I loved XP and now that will soon be without support
We haven’t had 7 that long which I don’t care for as some CD programs I have will not work on 7 so what to do, get rid of them? And also why does every phone call for support send you to India or another foreign country. Enough is enough.

Windows 8 is nothing but a nightmare….People really don`t have a choice when they buy a new computer because it will have 8 already on it, you can`t even buy one with 7 anymore…this thing is forced down your throat and after using Windows XP all those years and then have to deal with Windows 8 is just not what I want to do…I only use my computer when I have to, just not fun anymore…bah humbug

Well why not buy a computer without an OS and put what ever you want on it? I have a OEM win 95 with floppy boots I instal on an old pc once a year or so, just to keep in touch with the reality of how easy everything is now.

Whoopee! Glad I’m not alone! I had a very old windows program that was not very “souped up”. unfortunately my computer was so old nearly ten years old. Now I have 8 and it’s certainly more colorful…….but that colorfullness has spread to my mutterings as I try to do what used to be the simplest of tasks I had been soooooooooo comfy with. We’ll see how this goes.

I really don’t mind Windows 7 especially after I got used to it. XP is still my favorite but since this pc is less then a year old, I didn’t have a choice. I heard and read that Windows 8 is a big joke. I think I am either going to buy a Mac or a tablet when this dies. I am sick and tired of MS changing their OS every few years. MS has to make money-fine, but at the expense of doing stupid things and losing customers? If MS is so hard up then I am sure they can think of a way to make money other than churning out half made OS and expecting customers to grin and bear it.

They need to give the users what they like and want not what they want us to have the biggest problem is no mail service from the windows it is cloud based and it does not need to be . It is almost as if they want to dictate to us what we use but just as soon as I can I am looking to buying a mac or going with another windows system besides micro soft .

I had a pretty old computer with XP but knew I had to upgrade. I had a new computer built by an expert with Windows 7; he hates windows 8. I struggled with some sections of it but he helped me with remote assistance and now it is a piece of cake. Maybe those of you who are thinking of getting a new computer could find someone to build one. It’s the way to go.

Wake up, all of you. Are you all driving cars made in the 70’s, use incandescent lamps, analogue TV’s (fortunately no longer available), still using outdated telephones, washing machines, etc. Perhaps you did revert to using a mobile phone, i-Pads, microwaves, gps’s, and the list goes on and on. Technology will continue to improve, and in particular do not forget the advances made in medical science, etc.
