A Fundamental Tip to Help You Stay Safe Online

The holiday season is fast approaching, and the crooks will be out in full force trying to trick you into visiting a counterfeit site and/or stealing your money. One of the most basic ways you can protect yourself is to think before you click. Yes, we’ve reminded you of this dozens of times, but still people are getting tricked into downloading malware or giving up their personal information to crooks and scammers.. We don’t want this to happen to you, so we’re going to remind you again to THINK BEFORE YOU CLICK.

One trick scammers and other miscreants use is to disguise links with text or a link that looks safe but isn’t. We have said many times, “Think before you click.”  And it is one of the most basic tips that can keep you safe.

One of the ways people get trapped in bad situations is the presence of counterfeit links. Those are links that look safe or text that disguises the destination of the links. By hovering over a link, you can see the real deal – the real link – uncloaked and not disguised.

But it has come to our attention that some folks don’t see the “real” destination of the URL when they hover over links. It seems so simple, we just forgot to tell people where to look to see the real URL.
