A Quick Fix for Your Cluttered Desktop

Every once in a while, we feature a version of this tip. When we work on computers, we see a lot of desktops. And many of the desktops we see are full of icons. And we’re not above the fray, mine was full of icons too. It happens to most of us. Why? Because most of us learn early that the desktop is a convenient place to put things so they’re easy to find.

But, while that may be true in the beginning when, for instance, you’re starting with a new computer, if you keep putting things on your desktop, eventually you won’t be able to find anything. Your desktop will be the hall of fame of clutter.

Does your desktop look like this?

Icons, icons everywhere. Let’s fix that! Right-click on an empty space on your desktop choose “View” then uncheck “Show desktop icons”. See screenshot below:Cloudeight InfoAve Windows Tips

Yes! Look how pretty – when it’s all clean. See?

But where did all your stuff go? Well, it’s still there. You can see it by typing Desktop in taskbar search and pressing Enter. Or you can open File Explorer and click on Desktop. But we’re going to show you a better way.

We’re going to create a Desktop toolbar right on your taskbar where it’s always easily accessible.

Right-click on your taskbar and click on “Toolbars” and put a checkmark by “Desktop” (as in the screenshot below).

Now look on the right side of your taskbar, just to the left of the notification area? See? There’s your new toolbar.

Now when you click on the double arrows (above) you’ll see a list of items on your desktop – all neat and in order. See?

What’s better than a clean desktop – one that lets you see your pretty desktop wallpaper – while making it easy to access all the stuff you put on your desktop?

I love you guys!! I have been a ‘lifetime member’ and, there was a time when you really helped me. You still help me a lot with your information but, I re-married after my husband died in 2012, and guess what… the guy I married was ( wayyy back when) a computer software guy with a company inCanada called IVAC… yes one of the first companies to be contracted by IBM! So what… well, he still thinks he knows it all but, funny enough, I convinced him to read your news letters…. he has learned a lot!! So thank you for that… incidentally this guy is now 78 years old, lets give him some rope…. 🙂 even if he is Canadian!!
