Want to save some money and use your cell phone to make international calls (or domestic calls) to anyone with an iPhone or Android smart phone? There’s an app for that. This month (February 2012) Vonage introduced its new Android and iOS apps that allow you to call or text anyone who also has the free Vonage app.
The Vonage Mobile app offers free talk and text for communicating with fellow app users worldwide using WiFi or data connections. If you want to call folks who don’t have the Vonage app, you can 70% over major carriers. And calling with the Vonage app costs 30% less than Skype. For calling those who don’t have the app, Vonage app users can add calling credit in either $4.99 or $9.99 increments directly from the iTunes store or Android Market. The Vonage app makes use of your existing number and contact list.
Right now, calls to any phone in the US of A, Canada or Puerto Rico – to appless folks are free from the app (for a limited time). But you have to stay under 3000 minutes per month.
