Clarifying the Confusion Over the Closing of  Google+

What is Google+?

Google+, is a social networking site that was built by Google to compete with Facebook, but never really caught on. It is a feature of Google accounts. Google says it is closing down Google+ to concentrate on its enterprise (paid) version of it.

The truth is, Google+ was never popular and never had a substantial number of users; It was never the alternate to Facebook that Google thought it would be.  In short, it was a failure,

What does the closing of  Google+ mean to you?

There seems to be a lot of confusion about the closing of Google+, so we’re going to try to clear things up. Many of you are worried about this because Google is sending emails to everyone with a Google+ account.  The way Google+ was set up, nearly everyone with a Google account automatically got a Google+ account though very few ever used it.  But it’s important that you know that the closing of  Google+ will not affect other features of your other Google account like Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar etc.

Google is in the process of shutting down Google+ and by April 2nd all Google+ accounts and all data connected with them, will be deleted. If you are a Google+ user, you can use Google Takeout to save your Google+ data should you want to do so. See this article to learn how.

I read through the information when the email came the other day and am really confused/concerned. I manage a blog for missionary friends on Google’s blogger and have no idea if that is going along with other Google+ content.
If so, I wonder if there is a way to transfer it all to some other site?

Hi Margaret. I’m going to make this as simple as I can. If you don’t use Google+ for social networking, you don’t have to worry about anything, nothing is going to change. Not Gmail, not Calendar, Not Blogger Or anything else just Google+. Blogger is not going to shut down.

          From “Digital Information World”

Today, Blogger has more than 90 million monthly visitors and content creators are not only churning out some quality content but also utilizing the AdSense for revenue that is ultimately making advertisers of Google very happy. Perhaps that is the primary reason why Google is not eliminating the Blogger service from its umbrella.

Another reason for Google to keep Blogger up and running is that most of Google’s entities such as Android and YouTube are using the Blogger platform to host their respective blogs.

Regardless of the reason, Google has to keep the switch “on” for small publishers and business – the users of Blogger.com can rejoice completely over the current news. However, if you are worried about the future of Blogger, switch over to an alternative CMS.

Blogger has nothing to do with Google+ so it makes no sense that comments would not be allowed. Google says Blogger will be unchanged.

No. Google Photos, Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Maps, etc. will not be affected.

I don’t use Google+ but a friend of mine does, and he was asking me about it. I gave him a link to this, so thanks.
