We chose this site of the week because we know so many of you love fonts. If you love fonts, and you have patience, you’ve probably always wanted to create your own fonts. Well, now you can, and I’m serious. Not only can you create them, you can share them with your friends, install them on your computer, use them as you would any other font. It’s probably best to share them with a friend though. If you choose to use your own font(s) in email, the people you send emails to will have to have the same font installed on their computer or they’ll not see the fantastic fruits of your font labor.
After writing that fascinating write-up about our freeware pick of the week, my fingers are tired, and I’m still aghast at how much junk was on my computer – thanks to EB. So, much to your relief, I’m going to bring in the developer of FontStruct (which, if you haven’t guessed by now is our site of the week) to tell you more about our site of the week:
“FontStruct is a free font-building tool brought to you by the world’s leading retailer of digital type, FontShop.
FontStruct lets you quickly and easily create fonts constructed out of geometrical shapes, which are arranged in a grid pattern, like tiles or bricks.
You create ‘FontStructions’ using the ‘FontStructor’ font editor.
Once you’re done building, FontStruct generates high-quality TrueType fonts, ready to use in any Mac or Windows application.
You can keep your creations to yourself, but we encourage users to share their “FontStructions”. Explore the Gallery of fonts made by other FontStruct users and download them or even copy them and make your own variations.
You can also use the FontStruct widget to show your FontStructions on your own website or blog…”
Lo! and Behold! We’re going to set you free to create your own fonts! Click here to visit this week’s site of the week, FontStruct .
