How to access Windows 8’s powerful recovery tools — the easy way

Yes you can boot Windows 8 into Safe Mode. And you can use the Windows 8 installation DVD or USB to access Windows 8’s great new recovery tools. But there’s an easier way, and easier is better because you’re more likely to remember easy than difficult, right?

Press Windows Key + I or the sign-in screen and find “Restart”. Hold down the LEFT shift key (there’s a right shift key too, you want the left one) and then select “Restart”.

Your computer will restart quickly and boot directly into the Windows 8 recovery environment and from there you can access all of Windows 8 powerful new recovery tools. Just remember, hold down the LEFT shift key while clicking restart. So simple, so easy to remember.
